Something prevented the text engine from being initialized, PSE 15

New Here ,
Jul 19, 2017 Jul 19, 2017

I recently upgraded my Photoshop Elements to version 15. I am currently using Windows 10  After completing this I am no longer able to insert Text.  The error message that comes says: "Could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized".  I have attempted one solution, but found that there is no Adobe folder in the subdirectory where I was directed to go to.  There must be someone who knows how to resolve this issue, yet after many hours of search and research on solutions to this issue, I have come to a dead end.  The file directory C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\TypeSupport as defined here does not exist on my computer.

Please try the following:

1. Close the application.

2. Go to location C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe

3. Rename folder TypeSupport to TypeSupport_Old.

4. Launch the application and see now if it works.

Thanks,

Arshla

Thank you for your response. I have completed the four steps but there is no change. In addition, I restarted my computer, but the text engine will not initialize.

This method of support is a little frustrating. Is there anyone who can help me. Is there a phone number that I can call?

Please check this solution:

1. close PSE 15

2. open the folder C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\TypeSupport\PSE15

3. rename 2 files  AdobeFnt_CMaps.lst and AdobeFnt_OSFonts.lst (e.g. to AdobeFnt_CMaps.lst_backup)

4. launch PSE15 and check again the typo tool

On Mac the path should be

Macintosh HD /Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Photoshop Elements/15.0/CT Font Cache

This worked for me in Elements 14. I actually renamed the whole PSE14 directory and it was replaced automatically.

The problem re-occurred after another Windows 10 update. And the solution worked for a second time.

@Adobe: can we expect a structural solution?

I've tried C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe and Rename folder TypeSupport to TypeSupport_Old

without success. My problem also occurred after the latest Windows 10 Update.

Is there any sense in reinstalling PSE 15?

Try renaming

C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Local\Adobe\TypeSupport

instead.  This is what worked for me.

Go to Windows Control Panel, then "File Explorer Options".  In the window that opens, go the the "View" tab. About 6 lines down, you'll see "Hidden files and folders".  Under there, select "Show hidden files, folders and drives", then OK.

Go back to your home directory and you should now see AppData.

If you don't like seeing the hidden files normally you can change the option back afterwards.
