Speed up watch folders

New Here ,
Dec 15, 2016 Dec 15, 2016

In the past, whenever a photo was dropped into a watched folder, it showed up immediately in my PSE organzier. Since I have installed PSE 15, it can take a ridiculously long time before it shows up in my organizer. Hours. The next day. Too long.

This is always an issue, but becomes especially important when I scan in a batch of photos and want to immediately edit them. Since they don't show up in the organizer for hours, sometimes I then go in an add them in manually (File/Get Photos/From Files and Folders). But I found out that creates duplicates when the watched folder later adds them in again.

How can I get back that fast time when a watched folder adds photos to the organizer? I have Windows 10, in case you need to know that. Thanks!

Sorry for the inconvenience.

There has been a change in functionality of Watched Folders in PSE15, now Watch Folder will pop up displaying newly added files on every launch of Elements Organizer.

Can you please confirm if Watch Folder take time to pop up even after re-launching EO?

Thanks,

Anwesha

I'm having the same issue. To answer your question the Watch Folder never pops up after launching PSE 15 EO. The folders to watch are defined and the check box to perform the watch is checked.

I don't use watched folders except for special purposes.

The main reason is that in all previous versions, the result practically NEVER showed up immediately in my PSE organizer as you say; they appeared at random, sometimes quickly, sometimes after a long time.

The idea to search from the start of the organizer is a good one, and it seems to work well in my case.

The other reason not to use the feature is that it's so much faster to simply start a new 'import' from your all library or from the folders trees you know that new pictures could be added. The import feature does not import  already present files.

Another reason to think twice before using the feature is that the organizer may be starting a number of heavy background tasks like checking for missing files, indexing faces or locations. There are a lot of complaints about the new versions being slow for that reason. I can tell you I have no speed problem with an ordinary hardware setup; I don't use face recognition, geotagging and I have disabled all background tasks like smart tags.

For me, I rely on the watched folders a lot. I have gone in and unchecked those heavy background tasks (checking for missing files, indexing faces, locations, etc.) so my PSE 15 does not run slowly. I disabled smart tags, too.

However, when I scan in photos through my Epson program, rather than through PSE 15 (Get Files/From Scanner), I have greater control over the settings for the photos I am scanning in. I do realize that if I scanned them in through PSE 15 that they would pop right into the Organizer. But I can't control quality as well as I do through my Epson program.

Sigh. I wish they hadn't changed things. It matters to me.  Thanks for the input, though.

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

I am trying to get into your issue, the points that I am getting out of it is:

  1. You have watched Scanned folder, but it takes take to pop up in Organizer after relaunch.
    • Please tell me the amount of time it takes to pop up after you relaunch Organizer.
    • How many files are already there in watched folder.
  2. You have less quality options in Organizer scanner than it has in Epson Scanner.
    • Just to confirm are you able to find these options Scanner.png
    • If yes, than please share a screenshot showing difference in options of Scanner of Organizer and Epson.

Enjoy Photoshop Elements,

Shraddha

Thanks. That explains it. I'd like to say that it is rather crushing to me that it works that way.
