The New Elements 2022

Explorer ,
Oct 12, 2021 Oct 12, 2021

I purchased the 2021 version in March, 2021.  Do I have to purchase the new 2022 version, or does it simply upgrade the 2021 app?  IF I need to puchase the new version do I also need to delete the old version?

Each version of the software is independent. There is no automatic "upgrade." If you desire to have the latest version, you will have to purchase it. Multiple versions can reside on the same computer.

Suggest that you try out the 30-day free trial once the latest version comes to market this Fall.

I actually bought the Elements Suite 2021 on October 3, 2021 and the new one 2022 came out on October 7, 2021.   I contacted technical support and they refunded my 2021 and sold me 2022.   They probably normally wouldn't do that but I had bought it so close to the date of the new release, they refunded me knowing I would buy 2022 which I did.

In the case of the OP,  March 2021 would be two long.  Maybe I fell under like a 30 day or two week return policy?   I must admit that Adobe tech support was great to do this for me. I just told them my situation and they asked if I would be happy with their solution.   I was.

Here is a comparison of features between Elements 2021 and 2022.

And here is a fuller description of the new features.

As hatstead says, you can have multiple versions on your computer at one time.  Sometimes users do this because an older desired feature is removed from a newer version.  For example, many users prefered the old slideshow feature rather than the newer one that was introduced a few years ago, so kept the older version of Elements on their machine.  In the case of Elements 2021, I can't think of any reason why you would want to keep it together with Elements 2022.  So, if you decide to buy 2022, and if you use the Organizer, make sure that your catalog is properly converted to the newer version and you can then delete 2021.

@hatstead, Elements 2022 was released last week.  The 30 day trial version can be found here.

@P_Forrest,  thanks for reporting your experience.  There used to be a formal Adobe policy that allowed users who purchased within 30 days before a new release the opportunity to exchange their purchase for the new release.  I don't know whether the 30 day period still holds true, but at least we now know that Adobe still has that policy in effect for some new purchasers.

I mentioned it on the Premiere Elements forum last week. I just dropped by here today and noticed someone was asking about it. Adobe don't seem to mention it anywhere on their site, but I decided to ask them and they right away suggested a kind of swap. Though, they had to officially refund me and I had to buy it again but it was all the same price. No big deal to me. I had been upgrading from Premiere Elements 9.0 from way back to the Elements Suite.  The PE 9.0 serial number was in my Adobe account and they accepted it.

Since 2015, I've also a full Creative Cloud user but I barely used it the last two years and I downloaded the demos of Elements 2021 (Premiere and Photoshop) and it could basically do everything that I had been doing with videos and editing/scanning old photos and articles.  Also, I like many of the Guided Edits in the two programs.  Everything is so hidden in the main programs.  So, I'm cancelling CC at the end of November and I'm going forward with the 2022 Elements Suite.  Though, I like to use Adobe Audition for my music recordings so I may still buy a year sub. to that program only.

Also, I've never used Photoshop Elements before.  That's why I like to drop by the forums and see what the issues are.  Yes, I've used the full version of Adobe Photoshop since 2004 till 2021. I'm an intermediate user of the full Photoshop... not an expert. It didn't take long for me to realized that the Photoshop Elements had all the tools I had been using for years for myself.  I was under the impression it was very cut down but it's awfully good.  So, I'm getting up to speed on it.  I've figured out mostly what I like to do.  I was surprised to see it has the "Process Multiple Files" that I use all the time for converting stills for video editing.  It's all good.
