I use Photoshop Elements (v20.0) for organising on a 2015 iMac, and have 97106 files (on an external HDD). All are tagged/keyworded and rated. I much prefer the Elements Organiser to Bridge, or Lightroom or, or.... It displays well, defaults to a timeline rather than folder heirarchy, and I'm used to it.
For editing I use Photoshop 2023.
I will need to switch to a more modern mac (maybe a mini) later this year as I am seeing problems with compatibility (e.g. neural filters crashes on the most recent version of Photoshop, despite all the suggestions)with Big Sur (the latest macOS the computer can take) and also that Apple will stop supporting the chip. It's just time to change.
How can I transfer the catalog to a new mac and maintain all the groups/keywords/tags and ratings. In the past when I needed to do a simlar transfer, all the tags went into "imported keyword tags" which was a pain in the....neck, because when I added new tags I ended up with a mixed listing. I had to laboriously apply new keywords to all the photos, and then delete the "imported tag" - took me weeks and weeks and turned my brain to mush. Please help.

Thanks. Obviously, I can't check it because I haven't bought the new mac yet (maybe 24" iMac, maybe Mini M2), so I can't confirm. I'm just trying to look ahead rather than tearing my hair out in front of a new computer.
Just to be 100% clear, all the tags. keywords, and ratings transferred too, rather than as "imported keywords"?
Thanks again.

Yes, everything ended up as a mirror image of the original. I simply did a filesystem copy of the Organizer repository and catalog to an identical file structure on the new machine.

Thanks. That's clear. Now, I just need to be sure it will be able find the photos since, as I understand it, the catalog is in the computer but the files will be on an external HDD and sometimes changing the USB port loses the "link".

I just went from an iMac late 2012 to one from mids 2020 and I upgraded from Organizer 2019 tot 2023. I use Timemachine and when I started the new iMac and attached the timemachine from my old machine the OS just transfered everything without any problem. After installing the new version of Adpbe PE 2023 and starting te application the question came if I wanted to convert the old Catalog from 2019 to 2023. This also went just fine. After updating the organizer and camera raw to the newest version I could work with my catalog again as if nothing has changed containing everything I had keywords and all in the old version. So no problems as far as I can see and again prove that OSX is the platform for me. My catalog contains over 100000 photos and videos.
