Version 15 now not reading CR2 files or reads only partially.

I have a Canon EOS750D which I have used Photoshop Element 15 to edit photos for several years.  Today when I tried to open a file it gave me about 25% of the image then pixilated junk for the rest.  When I re-downloaded the file from my camera SD card it refused to recognise itat all!  The file opens fine in Windows photos application?  I have tried the Adobe DNG converter and it too refuses to recognise the format at all.  A lot of my photo archive is stored in CR2 file format so an very worried!

Would a newer version of Elements help? Do I need to turn off the CR2 format on the camera?

Any advice would be welcome.

You only mention this problem with a single file.   Are you able to open other (older) CR2 raw files?  If so, the problem may be with some corruption in the raw file or your memory card.

The fact that you are able to open the file in Photos is probably not significant since I believe that app only displays and edits the jpeg thumbnail that is included within the raw file, not the raw information itself.

How are you downloading the file to your computer?

And while I don't think upgrading to a newer version of Elements will have any effect on your stated problem, you can download a free trial to see for yourself.

Thanks for the speedy response Greg,  I have been doing some more delving and out of about 50 files I have 8 that show problems.  I have tried reloading the files from memory card and same issue.  Other files downloaded later from the same card are OK.  Today I did a download  of the affected files direct from the camera rather than the card reader (Sandisk Imagemate Pro) and they are perfect so it looks like a dodgy reader.  Why it should affect some but not all files is beyond me, probably "cos it can!".  Anyway reader heading for recycling and problem appears solved.   I may treat myself to a new card as well just to be on the safe side.  Thanks again for the help.
