Hi All,
I've been an Elements V1.01 for a good for years & I've just run into 2 problems! Time for an upgrade - but which version I need is not as clear as I would like 🙂
Firstly - The orientation of photos taken with my Android phone is a bit hit & miss with PSE V1.01 & I frequently have to do a 180 on the PC then find it goes wrong in emails that I include those changed images in. i.e. the recipient gets an inverted photo even though it looked fine before I sent it.
Secondly - my ageing 32 BIt PC started off as XP went through Win 7 & was actually working reasonably well on the Win 10 upgrade - then disaster! The Windows Creators update keeled over BIG time due to the ageing hardware & lack of suitable driver support. No amount of reloading helped so I've gone back to Win 7. Re-loaded from scratch including PSE V1.0 (had to tweak the registry to point at an old IE8 so as to satisfy the install as usual 🙂 So now working as "normal" but with the orientation issue as above....
So..... I'm looking for an older Version of PSE that works in Windows 7, 32 Bit AND makes use of any orientation info from my phone images..... I'm aware that V15 is quite recent but seems to be Win 10 & 64 bit only? I'm thinking V14 or earlier (they'll all be newer than V1.01 lol) BUT when did the orientation comprehension kick in? (Metadata? EXIF? not sure 🙂 Older versions are going quite cheaply but if it doesn't fix the orientation then I'm no better off.
So what is the earliest version that will run on Win 7, 32 bit PC AND give me the correct orientation of my phone's photos please.....?
Thanks, Baz
PS - A newer PC is on the cards, but not just yet........

Sounds like your pse is not reading some kind of metadata that didn't exist when pse 1 came out.
You could try rotating the image so it looks right in pse 1 and then use File>Save For Web>Jpeg and see if that maintains the correct orientation in the emails.
(save for web strips any existing metadata, so any other program should orient the photo the same as when is was saved from pse 1)
Pse 14 should work fine on your 32 bit windows 7, but it's hard to say 100% whether the orientation issue will be fixed or not, but you could download a trial and see.

I forgot to ask how much ram your computer has, which might be a factor in selecting an older version of pse that works satisfactorily on your computer.

Hi & thanks for your response.... At the moment I have 3Gb of RAM - As I recall this was a limitation of XP at the time - whilst the MOBO will accept more (on WIn 7) I'm loathe to spend on it as it's creaking a bit lol & due a complete re-think / purchase of a new fully Win 10 compatible tower 🙂
As regards saving files, what happens at the moment is PSE V1.01 appears to have a complete disregard for the orientation of my phone photos. They show as upside down initially so I rotate them to make them easier to work on, save them as a jpg & then insert them into a hotmail email in outlook.com & still looks fine at that point..... The recipient of the email gets the image upside down & when they reply back to me it still appears the correct way up - all a bit misleading!
I've recently tried one of the free photo editors & when I open one of my phone's photos it immediately warns me it's not normal - which is very handy 🙂 May be that's the way to go for now until I replace the ageing PC 🙂 Then go with V15......

Pse 14 should work on your system with 3 gb of ram, so you could try a trial of pse 14 and see what happens.
