All kinds of problems with Photoshop Elements since upgrade to Windows 10 version 1803 (April Update)

My laptop upgraded to the latest Windows 10 release (version 1803, April update) last night. Since then I've got all kinds of problems with Photoshop Elements 2018. Error messages all over the place, including

  • When trying to "save for web" I always receive an error "The operation could not be completed"
  • When trying to change settings I get a random message "An integer between 50 and 8 is required. Closest value inserted"
  • In the quick mode when attempting an adjustment (e.g. sharpen) a message "Could not complete your request because the active layer is empty.", followed by "Could not complete the Adjust Sharpness command because there is not enough memory (RAM)."

Until the Windows update/upgrade Photoshop Elements worked perfectly fine, no issues at all. Is there some incompatibility issue with the latest Windows 10 release?

OK, looks like I have found an answer that works for me. This (slightly scary) RegEdit hack did fix it for me.

I made a backup of my registry, then went into it and added the value. For some reason even for the 64bit version (which I've got) you need to add a 32bit key. Also make sure you use the value for your memory.

Since my latest Windows 10 update, I cannot use Photoshop. I purchased both Photoshop 5 and 12, and I can't use either. I get an error message when I attempt to save photos I've edited, telling me the image cannot be found, with the image on the screen in front of me. I can't afford to buy every new version, but I can't get access to Photoshop 5, which did work before. HELP!

The Windows 10 update would appear to be causally related to the issues that you experience with PSEv.5 & v.12.

Suggest that you do a Windows system restore to a point in time when the Adobe software worked on your machine.

I have exactly the same issues as armin grewe with Photoshop Elements 14 -- the software worked fine just before installing the latest Windows 10 ver 1803.

Windows is the problem. Have you posted this issue in the Microsoft Windows forum and/or communicated with customer service at Microsoft?

I'd say it's a joint problem between Adobe and MS, as I wouldn't recommend Photoshop Elements to anyone at the moment if it doesn't work on the latest Windows version.

Nevertheless, posted it on the Windows Support Forum as well if that's any use.

I have Elements 2018 and a new HP laptop running Windows 10.  I have reinstalled Elements multiple times with no success receiving the following Errors:

VCRURNTIME140.DLL

MSVCP140.DLL

These files show as missing and no matter how many times I reinstall (as suggested by Adobe) it doesn't change.

I've looked this issue up on other forums and the suggestion is that I reinstall Microsoft C++ to fix; If I even understood that, why would I buy Adobe Photoshop Elements?

Adobe has not replied to this issue on either the community forum, where I've posted it... and when I tried to do a "chat" I sat there for about an hour before I gave up.

Come on Adobe... help us out!  Please?

I just gave up after waiting two and a half hours for the Adobe jackasses to transfer me to the "Best suited site operator" to help me reinstall Elements 15....First Faisal, then Bhavika, then Pooja. Bounced around getting all apologies, but zero resolution from them!!  Adobe losers all.

Same issue as above poster.  RAM errors, and closing the pop up window just brings another one.  Only way out is to kill the app in task manager

Elements (14) cannot save anything - just says "cannot complete the save command because there is not enough memory"

I happen to notice that when I right click on an image and select open with, there are two copies of PE in the list. Maybe a clue?

I bet it does have to do with the huge Win 10 update I did recently.

WHEN IS ADOBE GOING TO FIX THIS PROBLEM?  There are many alternative programs.

Until Windows 10 resolves this issue affecting Adobe Elements, I have removed the latest update by Windows.  This is easy by going into Settings, then Update, and then find Roll back to the previous version (of Windows).

It would be terrific if Adobe advised us when it is safe to go ahead with a Windows 10 upgrade.
