Photoshop Elements 18 (Windows 10) changes Date Taken on import of .mov files from iphone 6sPlus

Imported a large number of photos and movie clips from iPhone.  PSE 18 changed the "date taken" to the date of import on .mov and .png files.  The correct date is available in the Windows Explorer "properties", but VERY tedious and annoying to correct each file individually.  How do I prevent this in the future? Or is there a way to correct in batches?

i once had a problem like this and used the command line tool Exifer for this. with this i made a batch file to read the correct date from one field and write it to the other field.

Takes some tinkering, but eventually it worked.

Elements does a poor job of finding the correct Date Created data from iPhone photos and videos. And it can be totally random.  When using the Adobe Photo Downloader to import files with the option set to store the files in a date taken sub-folder, the files will be stored in the correct sub-folder but still have the wrong date displaying in the grid.  Part of the problem may relate to photos that have been sent to you via email or through other social media apps.  The date will appear as the date you received the media to your phone.

As for changing the date in batches, particularly if you know the correct date, you can multi-select the files in the Media grid (contiguous and non-contiguous), and use the right-click context menu to Adjust Date and Time of Selected Items.

to ajust the date/time in elements like Greg_s sais is also possible, but only one itm at the time. Personally i make sure all is ok before i import the items in elements. Just for one or a couplt movies it is not a problem to change it in elements. Bulk ajustments for many items you must do outsite elements

Edwin, you can select multiple files in the grid and change all of them to the same date and/or time.

i know, but what is the chance that you want to change multiple video files to exactly the samen date and time? i guess almost 0.

if the correct date is to be found in the exif data in the file, but in the incorrect field, i would reccommend a tool like exifer to read the correct date and write it to the correct field.

As far as I know, the same problem exists with Lightroom and other softwares. Video files and png can't be trusted to store the date_taken. I suggest posting in the feedback forum where the exif metadata specialists can answer such questions.
