Just recently the color of my images in Elements 2018 are off. Is there a way to reset defaults? Or should I re-install the software?

Sounds like your images are 16/Bits/Channel, hence the message that jpegs require 8 bits/channel for previews when saving as a jpeg.

Before saving go to Image>Mode and click 8 Bits/Channel.

Where or in what application/program do the colors seem off?

What operating system are you using?

Restore default preferences

Preference settings control how Photoshop Elements Editor displays images, cursors, and transparencies, saves files, uses plug‑ins and scratch disks, and so on. If the application exhibits unexpected behavior, the preferences file could be damaged. You can restore all preferences to their defaults.

NoteDeleting the preferences file is an action that cannot be undone.

Do one of the following:

  • Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Mac: Option+Command+Shift) immediately after Photoshop Elements begins launching. Click Yes to delete the Adobe Photoshop Elements settings file.
  • Go to Edit > Preferences (Mac: Photoshop Elements > Preferences > General), click the Reset Preferences on next launch button, and then click OK. When you restart Adobe Photoshop Elements, all preferences are reset to default settings.

A new preferences file is created the next time you start Photoshop Elements Editor. For information on a specific preference option, search for the preference name in Help.

Thanks for your reply but that didn't seem to correct the problem. I tried a few times. Something else happened too. When I save as to a jpeg there is a note "Preview and file size are only available for 8-bit images. More previewing options are available in Save for Web." The .raw file remains and doesn't change to the new  jpeg file.  Any other suggestions?

The colors are off in Photoshop Elements 2018. I went ahead and purchased Elements 2020 but now I'm getting an error that execution cannot proceed because VCRUNTIME140.dll & MSVCP140.dll were not found. I contacted Adobe but they said those are Microsoft files. Any suggestions.

I "modified" the Microsoft Visual C++ and "repaired", that correct the missing files. Thanks
