Text Tool not working properly

All of a sudden, while trying to use the text tool in Photoshop Elements 15, after the selection is created with the text tool , when I try to type in it, the text types (microscopic!) in the frame expander/shrinker box at the top of the selection box! No error code comes up. I made sure the box was large enough for the font size but still doesn't work right.

Try entering a value manually in the tool options. It is possibled to go higher that 72. Try e.g. 100 or 150 etc.
