Unable to process photos in raw format taken with my Sony RX10IV

Hi everyone,

I use Photoshop Elements 15. I recently bought a Sony RX10IV camera. As usual, I took my photos in raw format. When time came to import the photos in PE 15, I got an error message telling me that the program was unable to process the photos. I tried with jpeg photos taken with my RX10IV, and they were processed without any problem. Would it be that I need to update my PE 15 so that it can process my raw files? If yes, how can I do that?

Many thanks in advance!

Serge

HI Serge,

Yes, PSE15 is too old to support recent raw camera formats. See:

FAQ: Will Photoshop Elements work with my camera, or Why won't my raw files open?

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

You'll need the current Elements version (PSE2019) to open those raw files directly.

If you don't want to pay the upgrade to PSE2019, the free solution is to download and use the Adobe DNGconverter mentionned in the first faq. That independent software, not a plugin, can batch convert a whole folder of your raw files to the DNG raw file that your PSE15 can read and edit. An additional batch step, but free and with the same raw quality.
