What do I do if Photoshop Elements does not open?

I bought and downloaded Adobe Photoshop Elements yesterday but each time I edit an image, save, exit and then attempt to reopen Photoshop Elements the program does not respond.  The online Adobe help technician reset my preferences last night.  I edited, saved, exited and reopened a couple of times and it worked.  But now this evening it is not reopening again.  The technician gave me a keyboard shortcut; Alt+Control+Shift, to reset Photoshop preferences when opening the program but it has not worked for me.  So far only restarting the computer or manually resetting the preferences seems to work.

I saw that on this and other forums that many others are having this issue also.  Does anyone have a genuine fix for this issue?

Are you using the Organizer?  If so, how large is your catalog?  If you have a catalog of any size, there is initially a lot of auto-analysis that is taking place in the background.  Unfortunately, this can create some problems like you are seeing.  You can try stopping the auto-analysis in the Organizer's Preferences to see whether this helps.

I am not using the Organizer (unless it is searching for images on my computer by default).  At this point I will try your suggestion of stopping the auto-analysis.

Thank you for your response

I'm not sure, but you may be correct about the search for images on your computer.  I believe watched folders are turned on by default.  This could certainly contribute to a slowdown in performance.  You may also want to turn off Watched Folders.

Try making a desktop shortcut to directly launch the Editor.

Go to:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 2019

Inside the Photoshop Elements 2019 folder scroll down to the items beginning with “P”

Right-click on the application PhotoshopElemetsEditor and choose:

Send to >> Desktop

You should now be able to launch the Editor directly by double clicking the new desktop icon. Even better, while the application is open right-click the taskbar icon and choose pin to taskbar. In future you can launch with just one click from the taskbar.

I have Windows 10pro installed and am using Photoshop Elements 5. When I first installed Windows 10pro, Photoshop would hang up and would have to close the program. I read somewhere a fix that seemed to work for a while then it started hanging up again.

I stumbled on a fix that seems to work everytime (knock on wood) for me. When is hangs up I close the program and open the task manager. Under Processes scroll down looking for 'PhotoshopElementsFileAgent.exe (32bit). Click that and then the End Task button. Once I do that, Photoshop Elements 5 opens just fine. I only have to do this about every 4 or 5 opening but I should just do it at the start each time to save me griping at my computer.
