I am sure I am missing something, but how do you get a straight line in brush mode on ps for iPad? Even with my keyboard, shift click did not seem to work...plus that is very awkward to try to do anyway!

Currently this isn't possible. In the Fresco app, they have added an experimental line-straightening method, as well as a more usable ruler tool. You can submit a request to add these features.

You can request this via the feedback link in Settings, or go straight to the feedback website. Here’s the link to the main categories page: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/categories

Don't have the iPad with PS Mobile with me, but I seem to recall that the floating spot is the key. Hold your finger on the spot and drag the brush L-R or up-down.

I had been trying that, but it did not seem to work for me that way. In fact that is what I figured it should be.

this is especially weird given Fresco has 2 ways of doing this (draw and hold and a ruler), and Adobe Sketch has a ruler.

Press and hold the center of the floating circle while dragging horizontally or vertically.

Oops! Didn't notice I had answered previously. This works for me.
