Photoshop for ipad and apple pencils

There is conflicting info about whether i can use Photoshop for ipad with my device.  I have a 5th generation ipad which does not have a compatible apple pencil.  Adobe says that i can have Photoshop but that 3rd party pencils are not supported.  Can i use Photoshop on my ipad without having a pencil.  Thanks.

I used Photoshop on my old iPad (the oldest in the list of compatible iPads) for a year until I bought a new iPad. I simply used my finger.

I bought my new iPad because Illustrator for iPad would not work on my old one.
