Cut outs export with solid white background. How do I fix?

I have set Mix to export as PNG as I want cut outs to have a transparent background. But after cutting out, the exported image has a white background. Am I missing a setting somewhere, or does mobile PNG not allow transparent background?

Hi Simon,

I guess so!

But I am glad that the issue is not there with the app or your device!

Sheena

Hi Simon,

Apologies for the delay in responding.

A couple of questions:

1. What device are you using? Please confirm the OS version as well.

2. To which application are you exporting the PNG format? Would you try saving the same to CC libraries and check?

3.  Can you please explain me the settings that you have done to export the image as PNG?

Regards,

Sheena

Hi Sheena,

I'm using an iPad Air 5th gen (model A1474), IOS 11.0.

In Photoshop mix I select: Settings/Preferences/Image Export Options/PNG

On desktop I email a jpg from one Gmail account to another Gmail account.

On iPad I download from Gmail, then open in Photoshop Mix.

I cut out then: Send to/Share/Image then select Gmail

I email to other Gmail account.

I want to use cutout in inDesign but when I import the image it acts like a

jpg and has a white background. So I open in Photoshop, remove white

background and save as PNG before placing in inDesign.

I don't use CC libraries much but when I do, the white background is still

there.

IOS 11.0.2 is available - should I install or leave it so as not to

complicate matters.

Hope that helps,

Simon B

Hi Simon,

I apologize for the delay in responding.

Have you tried to save the file over CC libraries and then open it in Indesign app?

Also, you can definitely update the OS version. The app is still compatible with the newer version.

Sheena

Yep, that did it. Must be an issue with the export/email process that makes

png act like jpg.

Thanks for your help,

Hi Simon,

Could you try the steps as below and let me know if you still face the issue?

  1. Load the jpeg from Camera Roll to Mix
  2. Do cut out
  3. Send to> Save to Camera Roll
  4. Tap + in Overview and load this transparent PNG to Mix.

Sheena

Hi Sheena,

I followed your instructions and the image returned to Mix with a

transparent background.

I emailed that image via gmail and sent it to a spare email address - it

arrived as a jpg with white background.

I also exported the original cutout to gmail - it also arrived as a jpg

with white background.

So I guess the fault is with gmail...

Uploading cut out directly to CC works fine.
