3D Objects & Video Files

Now I know how to animated a 3D layer, that's not the problem. Is there a way to make a video file into a 3D layer and have the video play? For example: use video file; turn into 3D layer, such as a sphere and the video plays on the 3D sphere. If there is a way, darned if I know how to do it & could use a video tutorial. If there is not a way to do it, there should be.
