Hello!

Why doesn't the eraser tool work?

It worked all the time when I pressed the left mouse button.

Today, suddenly no action.

What do I need to do to get the eraser back on?

Please give me a detailed sequence of steps to restore the eraser.

When you say the eraser tool doesn't work could you please provide a more detailed description. A screen shot could also help.

Have you tried resetting the Photoshop preferences?

When using the eraser tool are expecting to see the checkerboard pattern but instead effectively painting with the background colour? If so, you are likely painting on a background layer which can be converted into a regular layer by clicking on the padlock icon within the Layers panel.
