Adding "copy" to file name

Dear Adobe,

When saving a TIFF as a JPEG it adds "copy" to the end of the name of the file.  This is by far the worst most annoying change you've made to date.  Does anyone else agree?

This only happens when you try to save a layered TIFF or a 16 bits/color TIFF as jpeg. Jpeg does not support layers or 16 bits/color, so the image cannot be saved as such. You can only save a copy.

Who do you think you are addressing here? This is a user Forum.

And what are you talking about? Does the file have Layers? If so then naturally it cannot tbe saved as a jpg, but has to be saved as a copy.

Please read this (in particular the section titled "Supply pertinent information for quicker answers"):

Actually, Photoshop does not add 'Copy' to the file name in normal circumstances, even not if the TIFF is layered. I just tried. There is a bug in Photoshop/MacOS Catalina however, where 'copy' is added if you save a layered tiff as jpeg and you want to overwrite an existing jpeg in the process. There is a mile long thread about that on https://feedback.photoshop.com

Ah, good of you to dig further.

Hopefully the OP can provide more details and confirm whether it is this issue indeed or not.
