brush with layer mask issue

i experienced an issue since the october update with layer mask everytime i use the brush to mask or reveal photoshop freezes and the wheel keeps going for ages until i force quit photoshop , i am using imac 27 inch  2020 with 64g ram  .also wacom intuos pen and touch . any help will be appreciated , thank you

I experience something simalar, but on a Windows 10 machine with 32GB Ram and using a mouse.

I am still able to safe my file(s), close PS, restart and reload the image. Then I can use the brush on the layermask without a problem.
