[UPDATE July 2018]
My friends,
It's been a while, hasn't it?! Well, all that time was well spent as this is, without a doubt, the biggest update in BrushBox's history. It looks mostly the same from the outside, but under the hood we've made a LOT of improvements! Here's the list:
Improved
Fixed
Summer Sale
Since it's been so long since the last update, we're doing a 20% off sale from July 23 to July 30 to bring in more people to the BrushBox family and help keep the project alive and kicking. If BrushBox has been useful to you, and you would like to help spread the word by retweeting the sale announcement (link below), it would mean the world to me ❤️
A huge thank you to the beta testers for this release. You helped me so much and this update wouldn't have been possible without you.
And a shoutout to the creators of the infamous plugins Lazy Nezumi Pro (input smoothing) and Coolorus (color wheel) for their guidance and mentorship. Please support these friendly, talented developers who do amazing things for the art community at a pace that Adobe simply can't keep up with!
What's Next
I'm hard at work on the next BrushBox update (hoping to do much more frequent, smaller updates now), and... a new plugin! This plugin will be especially useful for those of you doing web/graphic design, illustrated books, print, and other things. Can you guess what it is?
Announcement on the new plugin coming soon. Built on top of the BrushBox engine which means you can expect the same level of polish, usability, and masterful design* that you've enjoyed thus far.
Thank you everyone. Keep making amazing art!
*lol, I'm no master but I try!

I'm bumping this because BrushBox has greatly improved my workflow, but it is good to know you are continuing to develop it. I am not fussed about having background images for groups, but group colours are great, and stroke previews would be more than welcome. I'll have to rethink my workspace to make room for them though. The preview size slider is going to make that easier — I tend to use it maxed out for Icons view, and it will be easy to get an optimum size for the list view with stroke previews.
Saving sets so we can close and reopen them is the one thing BrushBox really needs. Going back to Stroke Previews, and the size they take up on the screen, being able to close and reopen groups is going to make that easier. Even with twirling unused groups closed, it is still time consuming scrolling past them.
Another feature I'd like is being able to copy presets from one folder to another. Say, by dragging with Ctrl held down. It is fantastic being able to build favourite sets by cherry picking presets from various other brush sets, but I'd like to be able to do that without removing the preset from the original set. At the moment I have to select the brush, and make a new new preset, which places it in a new group. Then I drag the new preset to my favourites group, and delete the empty group. Not too terrible, and something you only need do once (least ways it would be if we could close and reopen the groups), but still a bit clunky.
I'd love to hear from other people using BrushBox and how they are getting on with it. StrongBeaver was the first person I remember talking about BB for instance. Any more fans out there?

There is also Brusherator, who created Perspective Tools 2.0; which is an awesome tool. Brusherator and Brush Box are both similar prices and I do love both although I'm leaning towards one over the other.

Have you got them both installed and working together? Can you have them both open and active at the same time? I see Brusherator can have two panels anyway, and I like the look of the mixed thumbnails.

I haven't bought neither, yet
I like BrushBoxes interface but I like Brusherator flexiblity, although it's UI could use some work; but the guy who created Brusherator is a nice guy, except when I asked him for a discount hahaha

You lightweight! I've now got licenses for both, and have both installed and running together on my desktop. I've not had a lot of free time today, but I found that Brusherator was definitely not intuitive and easy to set up. In fact I suspect I am going to have to risk losing my credibility as a manly bloke, and RTFM. That won't be happening till tomorrow now though. Well technically today as it is 2.30am here

IMHO BrushBox is the better more intuitive and effective of the two

Hi Derrick,
Is there a way to export each brush as individual .png files?
Let's call it a batch export.
I have seen that this was possible with Brush Pilot. I'm not sure if they still exist today.
Thanks in advance,
Patrick

Great to see the new tool! I was using Brusherator and MagicSquire (from the guy who created MagicPicker). MagicSquire is much more advanced and faster, but Brusherator as you say has a little bit more flexibility. Seems it's getting crowded on this market Great to see it!

Gumroad seems to have problems with their payment mechanics. Haven't experienced any issues with anyone else so far. I even I ordered Lazy Nezumi the same day - everything was OK. I asked my bank - everything is OK there as well.
Derrick, let us find another way to pay you so I can obtain а license of this awesome product 🙂 I can provide full mail conversation with Gumroad support FYI.

I never liked Gumroad one of the reasons is I found the name really dumb for a site to sell content.

Any help?

laurenm20608169 Gumroad's UI is a bit confusing... you have to be sure to type in the price you're paying (minimum is $15) and then you can click the button and it will continue the purchase. Hope this helps! Feel free to email me at support@brushbox.cc if you have any questions.

I love the concept of BrushBox interface but I'm running into a couple of functionality problems.
1. Brushes don't load properly: Often my brush sets are empty or partially empty when I first open.
I tried the "Synchronize Presets" from the gear icon and that doesn't seem to help... I'm not entirely clear on what that does, loads sets I don't want and doesn't load the ones I do.
If I click the gear to load brushes, including Kyle's brushes and my own saved brush sets, are grayed out and can't be selected. The only sets not grayed out are ones with .abr suffixes. sets ending with no suffix or .tpl will not select. But I can load them with my workaround, which is to navigate through finder to find the saved brush set and double click it to reload it. I have to do this every time I restart Photoshop.
2. Brush won't select: Often when I click to select a brush it won't actually select, even though it looks selected in the BushBox set. The brush doesn't change...
The solution, I just figured out on my own now, is that the brush icon in Photoshop needs to be selected in order to choose a brush in BrushBox. It doesn't automatically switch from another tool to a brush tool when I click a brush in the BrushBox window.

I have trouble selecting a brush with the Wacom stylus on my Intuos. I seem to have to use a mouse click to get it to take.
Solution: I figured this one out too. If the stylus slides a bit on the surface of the screen the program seems to think I'm trying to move the brush within the menu, rather than trying to select it. If I touch the stylus to it careful not to move it, the brush will select.

Hey Scott,
First, please email me at support@brushbox.cc so we can step through your setup with you and get you all set to go.
Secondly, and this applies for anyone who stumbles on this thread, please make sure you've read each page of the user guide as there are required steps you must take in order to avoid issues like the ones you're describing. The first and most important ones being to turn off "Sort by Tool" and "Current Tool Only" in your tool preset settings.
Also, for anyone reading this, a brief explanation of BrushBox's Synchronize feature is that it only updates BrushBox to show what is currently loaded in Photoshop. It does not add or remove presets from Photoshop, only updates BrushBox's own data to match.
Finally, the solution to the Wacom issue also lies within the user guide PDF. I added a click-and-drag time delay setting to the BrushBox preferences. If you increase this number, it adds a bit of time between when BrushBox thinks you're selecting vs dragging a preset.

Suggestion, sync your brushes to OneDrive.

I don't seem to like the idea of tweaking this and that in order to use Wacom properly =\ it really bothers me..

Would you mind sharing more info? I'm not sure what you're referring to. BrushBox does not require any tweaks in order for tablets to work properly. There's one option you can change to your preference but it isn't required.

I just purchased the brush plugin and tried to download it but can't because my Avast virus detector says that there is a virus in the .exe file (windows). How is this possible?
