Camera Raw writing duplicate .xmp file

Since installing Camera Raw 12.4 and the option for saving the xmp data into a database now gone, CR is now writing a second .xmp file to the folder. The only difference is that this file has a lower case .xmp so I end up with two identical xmp sidecar files in the same folder .xmp and .XMP.
It wouldn't bother me all that much but is affecting my cloud backups to dropbox. 

Is there a way to have it overwrite the existing .XMP file, rather than creating a new one?
