I can't open the file as it is named as a .png but is saved as a .psd. When I try to open it it says "not a png file". How do I change the file from png to psd without opening it in photoshop? I already tried opening it in other programs but it would not open. I'm not sure if it is a different error causing this.

Go with @c.pfaffenbichler's suggestion and you're good.

  1. Find the file in Finder (Mac), or Explorer (Win).
  2. Right-click and choose rename.
  3. Type the filename followed by .psd.
  4. The OS will warn you that you are changing the file type.
  5. Click OK
