Cannot render flame, object is not directly editable.

When I try to use the Render Flame tool it gives me an error saying "Could not render because the content of the layer is not directly editable." I am confused as I think I'm doing everything right but no matter what I do it just won't work. 

(EDIT) I had it set as a shape not a path 🤦‍:male_sign:
