Every time I try to change the colour of an object, squares of colour appear on the side of the image that don't relate to the colour I am changing it to...does anyone know how I can fix this?

Hi Claire - that looks like a GPU driver issue.

If you are using a Windows system, go to the GPU manufacturers website and download the latest driver for your GPU. In the case of NVidia, use the Studio drivers (which are better tested on applications such as Photoshop)  and when installing choose "Advanced" then "Clean Install". That will remove the remnants of the old driver.
