clone stamp tool wont work? Tried resetting (has a vertical cross beside it) please can someone advise?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that. Could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

Thanks for your help Sahil, yeah, this was the issue, how did i find myself in this situation in the first place, do you know by any chance?

We can't see your Layers panel or your Clone Stamp panel. One guess might be that the layer is a Smart Object, for instance.
