Is it possible to delete hidden cache files? Is there a folder I can find with "terminal"?

I know of no earthly way a user can "limit the [hard drive] space that Photoshop is able to use". What you can control in Ps Preferences > Performance is the amount of available memory (RAM) Photoshop is allowed to use. But that has nothing to do with your issue or anything else being discussed in this thread.

All cache files that should be deleted, get deleted when you exit Photoshop.
What are you trying to accomplish?

I have little free disk space available as I've been working with large files. I am hoping to solve this problem that keeps arising without having to buy a new harddrive?

Sorry: you're either going to have to delete files, or get another hard disk.

What if I said my capacity is 297.77 and I have 266.2 gb available.
and that when I work with large files this error seems to tell me that I'm working with to much. Is there a way besides limiting the space that photoshop is able to use.
I know this problem screams "buy another hard drive!!" but I digress.

The discusion in the below linked thread may provide you with some insights:

Yes, get another drive. No, I'm not surprised you're running into disk space problems.

Excerpts from that thread:
…My rule of thumb when I advice others is to figure on 35 to 50 times the size of the largest files you work with or more, multiplied by how many documents you keep open at once. If you keep a lot of states in your History panel and add loads of layers to each file, your needs will be at the upper end of the range.
…With 9 GB worth of files open at once, I wouldn't want to get caught with less than 150 GB to 300 GB of scratch disk space, and would shoot for much bigger drive in the terabyte range.
…
…The reason for this is that Photoshop always creates a scratch file the instant you create a new file or open an existing document, and it estimates the needed size based on assumptions it makes as a result of your workflow history in the past. It does this for every open file.

There could be other causes as well. But many people forget about the OS swapfile and assume that Photoshop is the only thing using their hard disk.
And the OS also creates cache files. All web browsers that I know of cache files on the boot disk. And Spotlight has to store it's database. And printers create spooling files. Some scanner drivers write out temporary storage for their scans (bizzare, but true). Some games can create multi-gigabyte cache files. Etc.
