Different Type of Type Layer? (sorry for the pun)

Hey guys

I am developing a Photoshop extension that manipulates text layers, and I have come across a strange situation in a PSD sent from a client.
I am used to having a text layer that can be either a Point Text or a Paragraph Text (with the ability to convert between the two through the Type menu), but in this PSD the text layer was not behaving as expected script-wise, and when I check the Type menu I see a different option in the menu. I dont see the "Convert to Point Text" option but instead see a "Convert Text Shape Type" that is greyed out (see attached images).
Regardless of the scripting mentioned, could you clarify where this kind of layer is coming from? My hunch is that it is a duplicated layer from an older Photoshop version. WDYT?

thnx in advance
