The only free Photoshop download that I know of is the 7 day trial version. It's best to check directly with your teacher if they had something else in mind. It is possible that your school software that you can use.

Some education establishments are extending their classroom licences, in conjunction with Adobe, so that students can use PS at home during the current situation. You will need to work with your school on how to set that up.
