When I move a text or drawing above a specific layer, they are automatically given an outer glow which is brown. How do I stop this? There are no effects enabled on them so why is it doing this automatically?

Is there an adjustment layer above that specific layer? If you aren't sure, show a screen shot of your Layers panel. Resize it tall and wider so we can see all the layers and their names.
