Duplicates?????

I have Photoshop Elements 10 and have installed Photoshop Elements 2018.  There are 7879 Images in 10, but 47427 now in PE2018.  Can anyone offer wisdom as to why and how to correct this?   Since I still have 10 on my computer should I delete 2018 and start over?  Will there be a disconnect with 10?   How do I prevent this from happening again when I reinstall?
