Glitchy Free Transform

I honestly welcome the constraint free-transform by default (without pressing shift), but without warning it changes to non-constraint free transform and I can't figure out how to get to back (have to press shift).
This has happened twice, I can't find anything online about this issue and it really throws me off on my daily design work.

Look in the options bar after you get into Free Transform. There is a link button inbetween W and H. If it is pressed, the controls are linked; if not, they operate independently.

 

I have not heard that there is a keyboard shortcut for this, but your post makes me wonder . . .

 

It can also be changed in Preferences, but that is less likely to happen accidentally.
