Google photos duplicating photo rather than replacing after edits

When I edit a photo in Photoshop Express on my phone, I use Google Photos as the source to pull the picture from. I have the setting disabled in PS to duplicate photo after editing. However, the photo is duplicated in Google Photos after I edit it. Meaning, I have the original photo as well as the edited photo. How to I make PS express not duplicate the photo in Google photos?
