Hi,

Screen Shot 2020-04-09 at 8.25.19 AM.png

Probably an easy fix, as I am a newbie, but I can't for the life of me click the layer mask icon to convert a selected area into a mask.

As you can see here, it has a dark grey highlight around it that i cannot deselect, and since this has been highlighted, clicking the icon does nothing - I cannot create a new mask.

Hope someone can please help!

Hello, you can update to Ps 21.1.2, it fixes this very issue: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/fixed-issues.html#photoshop-desktop-fixed-issues

Hi there,

We are sorry about the experience with Photoshop. The behavior you have explained has been logged as a bug and our product team is working on a fix. Please add your vote to the issue here: https://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/bug-report-photoshop-21-1-0-new-layer-and-new...

Please save the file, the quit and relaunch Photoshop to check if you are able to create a layer mask after that.

Regards,

Nikunj

I have also started having this issue, but only with the most current update (22 from October).  What's going on?  The "Reset preferences on quit" and then quitting did nothing for me.

Hello, sad to hear that, did you change any setting, like floating windows, etc?

Could please post the contents of help>system info, so that we get to know your OS, its version, the exact version of Photoshop you are running, the date of the GPU driver, etc.

Did you try also to search or create a thread on the https://feedback.photoshop.com site, watched by Adobe staff. Make sure to provide as many relevant details as possible, including the fact that it is Ps 22 that has the issue.
