The above messagecomes up on a lot of my photoshop files that have been recovered from a damaged disk - can this be fixed?

That's a pretty good indication that the data inside the files is corrupted.
You *might* be able to get some of the image back by opening it in different tools that can open JPEGs. But very likely none will be able to recover all the image data perfectly.
Check Irfan View as a viewer with some resiliency for opening corrupted files.

Thanks for the comment. I think you are probably right and my files are unrecoverable. I trien to use IrfanView following your suggestion but it appears to only be available on PC plartform and I am Mac based. Cheers, Phil.

I had the same situation, I was able to open the image with preview though on a Mac OS. After opening with preview went to file>export and exported a .png and works a like charm!

Then you most likely just had the wrong file extension on the file, and it wasn't really a JPEG file to start with.

this happened to me when i use images i received from whatsapp , my solution was to open the image using paint in windows and save it again as jpg. hope this helps.

Options tuÅŸuna bas
Açılan bölümde JPEG seçili olsun
Kalite sürgüsünü "Best" yap
Açılan pencerede, başta açtığın "yeni klasör" seç
Choose tuşuna tıklayınca,
hatası giderilmiş fotoğraflar
"yeni klasör" e kayıt ediliyor.
