How do you measure the outline of images like this?

I need to measure the coastlines of some images, and want to reproduce the effect found in the attatched image. Does anyone know how to do this?Capture.PNG

What effects? It look like someone laid out lines a particular length to outline an image the best as they could with each fix length line. Lengths 200, 100, 50 and 25.   You can have Photoshop outline an object ever create different path outlines.  However Photoshop does not has a option to use as particular length straight ruler for a ruff outline.  You would need to program a Photoshop Plug-in for something like that or do it manually.

 

If selecting the object results is a single continuous selection.  You could convert the selection to a path and write as photoshop script to calculate the coastline length though if you know the scale of the map.
