How to create cells in photoshop?

When designing in photoshop, i recall a feature that you can create drag and drop cells within an image file. These cells are fixed or locked. Therefore here I could add or replace an existing image within the cell and position it accordingly. How to create these cells if I am for example designng a flyer?

. From your description you actually may be referring to one of a variety of methods for placing an image within an unchanging rectangle or other similar shape and later changing the image easily.

 

Depending on how far back you are reaching into your memory, perhaps you are thinking of the “Paste Into” command or the use of a Clipping Mask. On the other hand, a recent, more advanced option is The Frame tool.  This video explains its use in detail: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7hsY--Pg_E 

 

To repeat, there are other methods available, as well.
