How to format text field in Photoshop CC?

I am trying to add some text on my flyer project and need to adjust the text. May I ask please what is the reason that text is only possible to put like that shown in the attached snapshot of the question. Thank you in advance.

You should be able to change the text,  font, spacing, sizings etc what is preventing you from being able to?

Thank you JJMack for your reply. I tried to change the text orientation by going into Window > Characters. But there is no solution for it.
