How to remove a black background?

I want to remove a black background. The object in the foreground is a hairy animal. What's the easiest way?

Use the Quick Select Tool.

Once you selected the animal.... click the button that says "Select and Mask" near the top of the window.

Then adjust the setting however you like.

I also always desaturate the colors... and then choose to output it to a new layer.
