What problem are you having?  With frequency separation one layer has texture the other layer color.  If you paint over an area by mistake  back up in history to back out your error. Make a selection for the area you want to paint on so you can only paint in that ares and paint the area to want to paint on.  Often with frequency separation you paint with a mixer brush without paint to smooth out the color in the ares you want to smooth out.
