Image Resolution

I am using image edit with photoshp in my website. I use images are large megabytes, which takes a long time to load the site. How can create image in low megabytes high resolution?

Lower the dimensions of the images – Image > Image size and increase the compression of JPGs.

Please provide a more meaningful description. 

Maybe there is ancestrors metadata.
