Inverting a curve adjustment layer not working?

I'm a Mac desktop.

I have used curve adjustment layers for dodge & burn with Command & I for inverting layers many times but it is not allowing me to invert???  What can I do?

I'm not quite sure what your issue is. Could you please post a screen shot.

Is it the mask you are trying to invert? If so, within the Layers panel make sure that you have clicked on the mask for the Curves Adjustment layer as opposed to the thumbnail for the Curves Adjustment layer. Then you can invert using Command/Control + I.
