iPhone ProRaw files

When I download ProRaw files to PS from my iPhone Pro 12 Max they automatically change to jpg preceded by looong series of #'s and letters. Does anyone know why this is and is there a workaround of some sort. What am I missing? I'm currently using a mac mini m1 for my photo editing. Thank you for your help.
