Latest update to Photoshop made it impossible to use intensity/contrast! Very, very slow. Does not help to use "use older".

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far?
Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences (Photoshop > Preferences > Performance > Graphic Processor Settings) and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

Hello, the adjustment layer, or the regular one?
Ok, indeed, I got Ps to freeze by using the image>adjustment, and not the adjustment layer.

To me it didn't matter if it was an adjustment layer or the picture itself. Could be a small or big file, the tool was just very slow.
Anyway the problem is solved by restoring preferences!

another user reports that disabling the Rulers can improve performance.

Hi
Workarounds include :
a. Disabling rulers.
Or
b. Moving the adjustment dialogue outside the Photoshop window.
Or
c. Using adjustment layers. Actually the last one, adjustment layers, is more of a preferred way of working than a workaround, due to its non-destructive, editable, functionality. No good for alpha channel adjustments though.
