I have several psd files in LR 11.3.1 that when I open in PS 22.3, I only get a backgroud layer. I always save the file with layers'. What could I be doing wrong.

Are you opening .psd files? Maybe you're opening .dng or other raw formats?
What if you try to open these .psd files straight in Photoshop instead of sending them from Lightroom to Photoshop?

They are psd and I tried opening the file from my external hard drive where I store my images and still get just a background layer.

It sounds like you created some .psd files with no layers 😉
How did you create them?

Lightroom does not have layer support only a psd document's full compsite image can be used in Lightoom if it is saved in the PSD.

I always save my files in PS and then close to LR. I must have a workflow issue but not sure what it would be. I do know that LR does not support layers.
