Layers with a path on it

See attached screenshot.
How can I make photoshop layers with the path icon on the layer, so I when I import into After Effects it creates a mask.  I'm not sure how the layer with the icon got that way.
Please Help.

This icon is indicating Shape layer. Use Pen Tool to draw shape or any of shape tools like Rectangle, Rounded Rectangle...
