I am trying to open rectangle photo in my Photoshop 2020 but it opens it only as a square....
what can be done ?

Hard to tell without any more information, but it sounds like an image with non-square pixel aspect rato. Where does the file come from?
What are the pixel dimensions of the file, as reported in Image Size?
