PEN Path tool keeping becoming inactive while making the path

I have started facing the problem 

while drawing the path with Pen tool, the tool suddenly becomes inactive and switch to Path Select tool.

After this I am unble to select the Pen tool back or any other tool, it stays on Path Select, and all the tools are inactive at this stage, I am not edit usingany tool ... While all the menus are active I am able to save the file.

So I have to quite and restart PS and then everyting works fine.

What have you done for all-purpose trouble-shooting so far? 

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:
