Photoshop 20.0.5 Lagging Badly on Windows 10

Hey everyone, so for a while now I've been working on a 30" x 28" canvas at 300 dpi.

Right now I probably have around 70+ layers (I have grouped them currently). I've just recently started to encounter severe lag in not only the brush strokes (this is where it is the absolute worst) but the program itself from direct selection, line, etc.

I have tried all of the fixes that have been put up, as well as gone through the listed trouble-shooting. Such as:

- Disable layer thumbnails

- Upgrade drawing tablet & photoshop

- Play with performance settings for cache sizes, levels, graphic acceleration, etc.

- Smoothing set to 0 or disabled completely.

None of it seems to be having any effect in helping me get this project done. I can wait up to a whole minute just for 5 brush strokes to eventually load. It's honestly testing my patience beyond belief now.

The only thing I can think of that is causing the problem is the size of the canvas and/or the fact that it is being edited on a 2k monitor.

Can someone please help me with this? I would be so grateful! A fix, workaround, anything at this point to help me smoothly finish this...

P.S.

If anyone is asking about specs, this machine should be more than capable of handling this load.

Hi

What exact version of Photoshop and OS are you using, have you tried resetting Photoshop preferences

You may want to backup your settings beforehand

I'm currently using version 20.0.5 (which I believe is the latest one) and on Windows 10 Home 64-Bit.

Away from home right now but once I get back, I will try that out and see if it works.

Try also to make sure Brush smoothing is set low. I have seen the defaults changed to 100% smoothing so this is a common question these days on the forums.

If your document is causing the problem (70+ Layers is a lot). Then try to convert layers to vector smart objects. That will reduce the total document size and possibly allow you to finish.

Add a scratch disk that is at least 10 times the size of the document. In Photoshop preferences, under the performance tab, Increase cache size to 1028k Then restart Photoshop.

That is not a great user experience, let's make it right.

As you're experiencing slowness with the Brush Tool, could you please share Photoshop's Help>System Info dialog text with us?

Also, could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

What are the dimensions of the file you're working with?

Hello,

As mentioned previously, it is lagging entirely, not just with the brush tool. It just so happens to be that the brush tool is where I see it the most.

I have tried the deselection of "Use Graphics Processor" and restarted and still nothing.

As for the dimensions, they are 30x28" or 9000x8400 pixels. Also the image size is 213.7M
