Since installing Photoshop 2021 on my Windows 10 Pro computer ...

  • Images no longer open in Photoshop when double clicking on them in Bridge.  They now open in Illustrator.
  • When I use the 'File' and 'Open' menus, the program wants to open files from the cloud instead of my local computer.  I do not use the cloud, and don't want to.
  • In File Explorer (the Microsoft program) Photoshop is no longer showing as an option when I ask to 'Open with'.  Furthermore, when I drill down in that function to explore additional available apps, Photoshop does not appear in the list.  I have to continue drilling down into the program directory and select the .exe file before the image will open.
  • When trying to set the default image editor for .jpg files, Photoshop is no longer listed as an option. In fact the only options shown are the ones distributed by MS along with Illustrator.

All of the functions described above worked in previous versions of the product.  PLEASE FIX!

You have uninstalled 2020 after installing 2021, which is actually something you shouldn't do. Unfortunately you couldn't know, because the CC app isn't telling you. This is a big problem for a lot of people, and one that I've been trying to get attention to for years.

What happened here is that uninstalling 2020 took your file associations with it, so now 2021 is orphaned.

Try to reassign file associations in Windows Settings. Assign Photoshop as default editor for each file extension you need it to open. It can also be done from Bridge, but doing it directly in the OS is better.

The way to completely avoid the whole problem is to always install in version order, and uninstall in reverse version order. Last in, first out. That's always completely safe.

"Images no longer open in Photoshop when double clicking on them in Bridge."

File Associations for Bridge need to be set separately from the OS. Go to Adobe Bridge > Preferences > File Type Associations and change the association for .psd (etc.) to Photoshop.

In Windows, Preferences is in the Edit menu instead of the Adobe Bridge menu.
