Photoshop 2021 now very slow (10mins) to convert folder to a Smart Object

My workflow involves creating smart objects of groups that I want to keep together and edit in their own section.

I've found the latest version of Photoshop is processing the conversion to a smart object extremely slowly, in particular when the folder contains a Raw Smart Object

Example: Folder includes Raw Smart Object, masked, Hue Sat Adjustment layer (that's all) Click on folder to convert to smart object. Takes 10mins. This used to happen immediately in previous versions and with deeper more complex folders.

This has halted my whole workflow and I'm hoping someone can advise a fix or let me know if they are also having the same problem.

I'm running an Imac Pro with 32gig Ram so no issues with processor speed.
